The Painted Desert Inn, a historic building in the Petrified Forest National Park has gone through several changes in use and decor since it was built in the 1920's. It was used as an Inn by Fred Harvey and his Harvey girls for a period of time. For many years it was in a state of disrepair and not used. Recent renovations have given the building a lovely face-lift and made it a distinctive stopping place on a tour of the park. Its position of prominence on a hill above the beautiful Painted Desert area is like placing a fine jewel in a landscape tiara. The whole of it is a breath-taking portrait of a unique area of the Northeast Arizona landscape. ******
